Description
Role Overview
Mercor is collaborating with a leading AI lab to contract experienced writers for an AI training data project. Contractors will write natural, high-quality prompts and responses across a wide range of real-world writing tasks. The goal is to help AI models produce writing that sounds more natural, more human, and more attuned to the craft and conventions of each format — whether that's a sharp news explainer, a thoughtful performance review, or a concise Slack message. All work must be entirely human-written; LLM-generated content is strictly prohibited.
Key Responsibilities
-
Write realistic prompts that reflect how professionals and everyday users request written content across categories including:
-
Communication: emails, short-form messages, polished notes, speeches and remarks
-
Essays: criticism, interpretive analysis, and structured argument pieces
-
Concepts: explainers at varying levels, tutorials and how-to guides, worked examples
-
Journalism: profiles, reported narratives, interview questions, news explainers, backgrounders
-
Business: memos and strategy docs, product requirements and specs, stakeholder updates, performance reviews and feedback
-
Academic: related work sections, paper outlines
-
Product & Marketing: onboarding flows, help docs
-
-
Craft polished, high-quality responses to those prompts that demonstrate strong writing across tone, structure, accuracy, and audience-awareness
-
Adapt voice and style to match the context — a casual Slack message should read differently than a news explainer or a product requirements doc
Ideal Qualifications
-
Professional experience in journalism, education, content marketing, non-fiction writing, communications, or a related field
-
A strong portfolio or track record of published writing, editorial work, curriculum development, or content strategy
-
Range and versatility — comfort writing across multiple formats, audiences, and levels of formality
-
Sharp instincts for tone, structure, and clarity
-
Strong attention to detail and a high personal bar for quality
