About the Role
Mercor is partnering with a leading AI lab to train frontier models on high-quality legal reasoning data. We're hiring Specialist Lawyers in Real Estate, Tax, Bankruptcy/Restructuring, and Trusts & Estates to design realistic specialty scenarios, evaluate model outputs against established standards, and help shape how the next generation of AI reasons about high-stakes specialized legal work.
We welcome practitioners across these specialty areas — in-house specialists, partners and senior associates at firms, and former government / agency attorneys are all encouraged to apply.
What You'll Do

Design realistic specialty scenarios drawn from your practice (RE purchase and leasing, M&A tax structuring, Ch. 11 petitions, estate planning, plus the workflows that define your area)

Write "golden" reference responses at attorney-level quality

Grade AI-generated responses against structured rubrics

Provide written feedback the research team uses to improve model behavior

Participate in onboarding office hours and specialty calibration sessions
You're a Good Fit If You
-
Have 3+ years of professional experience in one of the following specialties:
-
Real Estate — commercial leasing, residential and commercial purchase agreements, title opinions, UCC liens, 1031 exchanges, zoning

Tax — M&A tax structuring, IRS controversy, SALT nexus analysis, transfer pricing, 501(c)(3) applications, 280G, partnership/LLC tax allocations

Bankruptcy / Restructuring — Ch. 11 petitions, DIP financing, 363 asset sales, plans of reorganization, automatic stay relief

Trusts & Estates — estate planning, will drafting, trust formation, trust administration

Hold a J.D. (U.S./Canada) or LL.B./LL.M. (U.K.) from an accredited law school

Are licensed to practice law in the U.S., Canada, or U.K. (active or inactive)

Demonstrate excellent written communication skills with high attention to detail
Bonus Qualifications

Cross-specialty experience (multiple practice areas)

LL.M. in Tax or Estate Planning

In-house experience at a real estate developer, financial institution, or wealth management firm

Bankruptcy court experience or trustee work
Role Highlights

Minimum 20 hours per week (ideally 40+)

Fully remote — must be based in the United States, Canada, or United Kingdom

Role starts immediately, applications reviewed on a rolling basis
Compensation
- $85–$120/hr
